South-South: PANDEF applauds Tinubu.
PANDEF, the Pan Niger Delta Forum has showed their immense appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the South-South Development Commission Bill into law. The group described the action of President Tinubu as a move which is historic and pivotal for the growth of regions.
In a statement issued by Ambassador Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, PANDEF’s National Chairman, the forum applauded the President and the National Assembly for their efficiency in the legislative processes of the Bill, which ensures the timely passage of it. They announced this on Tuesday, 25th of March, 2025.
“This singular action has boosted the confidence of our people in the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering even regional development across Nigeria,” PANDEF stated. “It also affirms efforts to address the unique social, environmental, and developmental challenges confronting the South-South region.”
The forum also requested the President to appoint an experienced and competent individuals to lead the commission. This would effectively complement the efforts of the state government in driving sustainable development.
The group also noted that the Niger Delta, which has played a major role in sustaining the economy of Nigeria through its rich oil and gas production, would be needing intervention in tackling its environmental degradation and infrastructure deficit.
PANDEF also draws the attention of the federal government on the issues of the environment and infrastructure in the region, urging the government to remediate and address the long-standing concerns in South-South.
Additionally, the group also pleaded with the President to intervene in the political crisis of Rivers State, requesting him to reinstate Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State Assembly while highlighting its concerns over the suspension.
The group concluded by reassuring it's commitment to collaborating with the federal government in fostering peace, development, and stability in the South-South region.
