On Tuesday, 25th of March, a heated verbal abuse has ensued between Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi North, and former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili during the public petitions hearing of the a Senate committees.

The verbal abuse occurred as the committee reviews and deliberate on a fresh petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President.

Abiola Akiode, counsel to Akpoti-Uduaghan, and Ezekwesili attended the session alongside Zubairu Yakubu.

The tension rose upon Yakubu's attempt to speak while Neda Imaseun, the committee chairman was addressing the panel.

As he was instructed to mute his microphone, Ezekwesili to intervene, however Nwaebonyi, who is seated as Akpabio's witness interjected, which led to a sharp exchange between the former minister and him.

“Compose yourself and stop making noise,” Ezekwesili told Nwaebonyi.

Nwaebonyi was angered by her remark and he fired back: “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here.”

In reaction to Nwaebonyi, Ezekwesili called him a "hooligan" which made the matter to escalate and to stop the proceedings briefly.

After a while, order was restored and Imaseun publicised that the case has been taken to the court, leading to an usually adjournment of the case hearing.
