The Premier League has announced that there's going to be a two transfer windows this summer, while looking at the “exceptional” circumstances surrounding the FIFA Club World Cup.
From the publication, the first window will be open very early than usual, which would run from Sunday, 1 June, to Tuesday, 10 June. After that would be a temporal closure, before reopening on Monday 16th of June.
While the second transfer window will follow the usual time frame, and afterwards closes on Monday 1st of September.
This decision is in response to the announcement made by FIFA, in October last year. The announcement which was about an interim transfer window for clubs participating in the Club World Cup.
This decision allows certain teams like Chelsea and Manchester City to strengthen their squads and extend contracts before the tournament kicks off on 14th June at the United States.
The Guardian last month reported that many Premier League Clubs were against the idea of not being able to make transfer during the period.
In order not to be at competitive disadvantage, they pushed for an earlier domestic window.
In an agreement reached on Thursday, the league stated that, “The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the Fifa Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September.
The transfer window was opened from 14th of June to 30th of August during the last summer.
